XRP ETFs Drive Record Inflows, Regulatory Clarity Fuels Institutional Growth
The introduction of seven spot XRP ETFs on US exchanges in 2025 marked a significant turning point for Ripple's XRP token. By December, cumulative inflows had surpassed $1 billion, with the funds holding roughly $1.44 billion in combined assets under management as of late August 2026. This represents just 1.9% of XRP's total market capitalization of $92 billion.
The figure is striking when compared to Bitcoin's spot ETF complex, which holds nearly $52 billion in cumulative net inflows and accounts for about 6.5% of BTC's total market capitalization.
Regulatory clarity has been a key factor in XRP's growth, with the SEC and CFTC releasing a joint interpretive document in March 2026 that classified XRP as a digital commodity. This move removed a legal ceiling on institutional participation and enabled banks, hedge funds, and asset managers to hold and trade XRP under the same commodity framework they use for gold, oil, and natural gas futures.
The regulatory shift has also opened up new opportunities for custody providers and index inclusion, with major crypto indices like S&P, FTSE Russell, and Bloomberg adding XRP at weights that reflect its market capitalization. Passive funds tracking these indices are now buying XRP automatically, providing a source of structural demand.
