XRP Gains Institutional Traction with Credit as Collateral
Ripple's product head Jazzi Cooper believes that XRP has a significant use case in institutional credit as collateral. This concept, known as 'institutional collateral,' refers to the practice of using digital assets like XRP as security for loans and other financial transactions.
Cooper pointed out that despite growing interest in on-chain finance, this potential use case remains largely unexploited. He highlighted the importance of the XRP Ledger's lending infrastructure, specifically the Single Asset Vault amendment (XLS-65) and the Lending Protocol (XLS-66), which enables fixed-term, uncollateralized loans using pooled funds from a Single Asset Vault.
The Lending Protocol and Single Asset Vault amendments represent some of the most significant institutional lending deployments on XRPL to date. They are currently in voting, with an upcoming update, Lending Protocol V1_1, set to be implemented next week as part of XRPL 3.4.0.
