XRP Ledger Accelerates Post-Quantum Security Plans to Beat Ethereum Timeline
XRP Ledger is accelerating its plans to achieve full post-quantum security by 2028, positioning itself ahead of Ethereum's current goal of 2029. Ripple's developers are working on a hybrid model that will deploy new, quantum-resistant signatures alongside existing ones, allowing for a gradual adoption without disrupting the network.
The XRP Ledger is already testing post-quantum algorithms and has implemented native key rotation, which enables users to update cryptographic keys without changing their account addresses. This feature is crucial in preparing for a potential 'Quantum-Day' where vulnerable accounts may need to be migrated to safer cryptography.
Ripple's roadmap includes active testing of quantum-resistant signature methods under real network conditions and Project Eleven is supporting validator testing, Devnet benchmarking, and development of a post-quantum custody wallet prototype. The developers are also preparing an emergency protocol to protect vulnerable accounts without shutting down the network.
