XRP Ledger Addresses Vulnerability with Upgrade

The XRP Ledger Foundation has rolled out an upgrade to address a recent vulnerability affecting node performance. A manifest flood was detected on July 31, but network operations and transaction processing remained unaffected.

However, developers prioritized patching the issue to prevent future disruptions. The root cause of the manifest flood has not been disclosed, but it is tied to how nodes process validator manifests, key cryptographic documents used to guarantee the authenticity of validators within the ecosystem.

The upgrade introduces four new protections: rejecting abnormally large manifests, limiting the number of manifest batches from incoming connections, capping bulk manifest data exchanged when connecting to new peers, and restricting nodes from storing manifests from more than 100 unknown validator keys.
