XRP Ledger Amendment May Break Crypto's Near-Perfect Lockstep with Bitcoin
XRP and Bitcoin have been moving in tandem since their peak last week, but an upcoming XRP Ledger amendment could change this dynamic. The close correlation between the two assets suggests macro forces are driving them, setting up a key test as XRP faces an asset-specific catalyst.
According to Bitrue Research, if XRP holds above $1.43 and pushes toward $1.50 while Bitcoin remains range-bound, it would indicate that recent correlation was circumstantial. This would suggest that XRP can still respond independently to ledger development and ecosystem catalysts.
The market's reaction to the upcoming amendment will be a crucial test for XRP. If the token continues to match Bitcoin almost move-for-move despite the amendment, it may be treated primarily as a macro-sensitive crypto asset. However, if XRP-specific developments help the token outperform Bitcoin, it could strengthen its case as a distinct crypto allocation.
The upcoming August CPI data on September 11 and the Fed's meeting on September 15-16 will add to the macro test for both assets. Soft inflation could lift both Bitcoin and XRP, while hotter inflation could pressure them. The key signal will be relative performance: if both fall by similar amounts, it would indicate that macro remains in control.
