XRP Ledger Expansion Plan Sparks Heated Debate Over Decentralization Risks
The XRP Ledger expansion plan has sparked a heated technical debate in the crypto community. The proposal, led by Vet from the XRPL Foundation, aims to increase the limit of the transaction Memo field by 1,200 times, from 1 KB to approximately 1.3 MB.
This would allow users to embed files directly into the ledger, including images, PDF documents, music tracks, and software source code. The proposal is justified by the principle of freedom of choice, but critics argue that it could threaten the network's decentralization.
Matt Hamilton, a former developer relations director at Ripple, has criticized the initiative, calling it 'a really bad idea.' According to him, if large media files are stored on the ledger, the database will grow exponentially, requiring significant hardware upgrades and increasing costs for independent participants.
