XRP Ledger Foundation Releases Major Upgrade to Prevent Manifest Flood

The XRP Ledger Foundation has released a major software update to address the recent manifest flood issue that affected nodes on July 31.

The upgrade aims to strengthen the XRP Ledger by introducing four new protections: rejecting unusually large manifests, limiting incoming manifest batches, capping bulk manifest data shared with peers, and preventing nodes from storing manifests from unknown validator keys.

The developers identified a problem where XRPL nodes could accept and rebroadcast an unlimited number of manifests from unknown validator keys, leading to unnecessary resource consumption.

Although the issue did not impact the network's transaction processing ability, the development team acted quickly to prevent similar events in the future.
