XRP Ledger Hits 5 Billion Transactions Milestone Amid Growing Utility
The XRP Ledger has reached an impressive milestone of over 5 billion lifetime transactions since its launch in June 2012. The feat was highlighted by popular XRP explorer xrpscan, which noted that this milestone was achieved at low cost and with settlement times of just 3-4 seconds.
The achievement is a testament to the scalability and efficiency of the XRP Ledger, which has been running consistently for over 14 years. The ledger's founders, David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto, aimed to create a digital asset that was more sustainable than Bitcoin and built for payments.
In recent news, the utility of XRP continues to grow, particularly in institutional DeFi use cases such as tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), stablecoins, and decentralized liquidity. The RWA value on the XRP Ledger has quadrupled since 2026, with a represented asset value of $4.05 billion according to rwa.xyz data.
The XRP Ledger's deflationary mechanism, which systematically burns transaction fees, has also had an impact on the total supply of XRP. Since its inception, about 14,376,417 XRP has been burned, representing just 0.014% of the total supply.
