XRP Ledger Integrates Mastercard Verifiable Intent Standard
The XRP Ledger has achieved a significant milestone as Mastercard's Verifiable Intent standard for agentic payments goes live on the platform. According to t54.ai, an AI infrastructure company building an agentic economy on XRPL, developers can now prove through the x402 Facilitator who authorized a payment, under what limits, and for which purchase.
The x402 facilitator went live in February 2026, enabling AI agents to pay for services using XRP and RLUSD without needing an API key or account. This integration allows Trustline screens to verify the authenticity of payments before settlement.
t54.ai stated that developers can attach a Mastercard-aligned Verifiable Intent (VI) to their x402 payments, ensuring every request made by agents is automatically run through the XRPL Facilitator's risk service. The rise of AI has created new payment requirements, and Mastercard introduced Agent Pay for Machines (AP4M), which enables permissioned, orchestrated, and settled transactions at machine speed across its global network.
Ripple joined the ecosystem supporting Mastercard's AP4M initiative in June 2026 to validate new use cases, establish common rules, and accelerate adoption. The agentic economy on XRPL is growing, with over 1.4 million agentic transactions settled through t54's x402 facilitator.
RippleX head of engineering J. Akinyele compared the current state of agentic payments to the early days of cloud infrastructure, noting that as AI agents become more capable, they will require seamless payment infrastructure similar to data exchange.
