XRP Ledger Integrates Mastercard's Verifiable Intent Standard for Agentic Payments
Mastercard's Verifiable Intent standard has been integrated into the XRP Ledger. The x402 facilitator, which went live on the XRP Ledger in February 2026, now supports agentic payments using XRP and RLUSD without requiring an API key or account. This integration allows developers to prove who authorized a payment, under what limits, and for which purchase through Trustline screens before settlement.
According to t54.ai, the x402 facilitator also enables attaching a Mastercard-aligned Verifiable Intent (VI) to payments, ensuring every request made by an AI agent is automatically run through the XRPL Facilitator's risk service. The rise of AI has created new payment requirements, and this integration addresses them.
Ripple joined the ecosystem supporting Mastercard's Agent Pay for Machines initiative in June 2026, helping to validate new use cases and accelerate adoption. As part of this push, Mastercard introduced the AP4M service, allowing permissioned, orchestrated, and settled payment transactions at machine speed across its global payments network.
The agentic economy on the XRP Ledger is growing, with over 1.4 million agentic transactions settled through t54's x402 facilitator on the XRPL. RippleX head of engineering J. Akinyele compared this milestone to the early days of cloud infrastructure, stating that 'Crossing 1M agentic transactions on the XRPL is an exciting milestone, but I believe we're still in the early stages of what's possible.'
