XRP Ledger Introduces Confidential Transfers for Institutional Users
Ripple's XRP Ledger is set to introduce a new feature aimed at institutional users, dubbed 'Confidential Transfers'. The update will allow institutions to move Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs) without publishing the size of every position and transfer. This is achieved through encryption, where individual balances and payment amounts can be hidden while still ensuring that the transaction is valid.
The feature is part of XRPL version 3.3.0, which includes six proposed amendments in total. The idea behind Confidential Transfers is to cater to institutional users who need to move tokens without revealing their positions or transfer amounts. However, it's worth noting that accounts and the type of token being moved will still be visible.
Ripple has been pushing XRPL deeper into tokenized finance this year, with Aviva Investors launching a tokenized share class of its U.S. Dollar Liquidity Fund on the ledger in February. There is already $530 million worth of tokenized real-world assets on the XRP Ledger, including over $845 million of $RLUSD.
