XRP Ledger Races Ahead in Quantum Readiness with 2028 Deadline

XRP Ledger's developers have set their sights on achieving quantum readiness by 2028. This timeline puts them ahead of Ethereum, which aims to complete its transition in 2029.

The key to XRP Ledger's success lies in its native key rotation feature, the Quantum-Day emergency response protocol, and active cryptography testing. These features will allow cryptographic keys to be updated without disrupting existing addresses, isolate vulnerable accounts, and deploy new security protocols through a hybrid approach.

Vet, an XRPL Foundation contributor and validator on the decentralized Unique Node List (dUNL), believes that XRP Ledger is challenging Algorand's claim of quantum readiness. Vet notes that while Algorand has launched quantum-secured accounts based on Falcon-1024 signatures, its architecture still relies heavily on the vulnerable Ed25519 standard for everyday operations.

Ripple's comprehensive strategy and Project Eleven initiatives involve a complete security audit of every layer of XRP Ledger. This plan includes a testing phase in 2027, the hybrid use of old and new signatures in parallel, and the final mainnet upgrade in 2028.
