XRP Ledger Shatters Transaction Record with 3,254 Transactions in a Single Block
XRP Ledger (XRPL) has set a new record for transactions processed in a single block, with 3,254 transactions recorded on September 14. This achievement comes after the mainnet activation of the fixCleanup3_3_0 amendment just days prior.
The XRPL Foundation contributor Vet revealed that most of these transactions were simple XRP payments, which place a light load on the network. However, he noted that cross-currency, DEX, and NFT transactions have higher load footprints than basic XRP payments.
Vet explained that 500 XRP payments would not push the Ledger into unhealthy territory, but 200 DEX-heavy transactions could. The massive transaction volume resembled throughput testing rather than organic retail flow.
The network's block size is not fixed like Bitcoin's, and its transaction capacity is an adaptive soft target. If the last ledger packed more than the target and still closed fast, the target can rise, indicating healthy consensus.
Despite the record transactions, XRPL recorded no slowdowns, no disruption, or validator issues. Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz had previously noted that the XRP Ledger comprised over 93% of all network activity in August, with cheap transaction costs enabling various activities.
