XRP Ledger Smashes Transaction Record with Tiny Payments
The XRP Ledger processed a record 3,254 transactions in ledger 106,965,249 on September 13. However, 2,000 of those transactions came from just 20 accounts sending identical 1-drop payments, each worth one-millionth of an XRP.
These transactions contributed to the record-breaking number, but they moved only 0.002 XRP in total while paying a fee of about 0.04 XRP. The remaining activity on the ledger was more typical of ordinary XRP Ledger usage, including offer creations and ticket creations.
Hussein Zangana, community director at the XRP Ledger Foundation, suggested that this pattern may have been due to throughput testing, as simple XRP payments place a very low load on the network. The ledger absorbed the load without a fee spike, thanks to its dynamic size limits rather than fixed block caps like Bitcoin.
