XRP Ledger Surpasses 5 Billion Transactions: What's Next for XRPL
The XRP Ledger has reached an impressive milestone, it has processed over 5 billion transactions since its launch in June 2012. The ledger was created by three engineers, David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto, who aimed to build a more sustainable and payment-focused digital asset compared to Bitcoin.
The XRP Ledger's growth is evident in its increasing adoption, with over 8 million total accounts and 2.3 million agentic transactions settled on the ledger as AI agents use XRP and RLUSD for direct on-chain payments.
The utility of XRP continues to grow, particularly in institutional DeFi use cases such as tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), stablecoins, and decentralized liquidity. The RWA value on the XRP Ledger has quadrupled since 2026, with a represented asset value of $4.05 billion.
The transaction fees on the XRP Ledger are systematically burned, applying deflationary pressure to XRP's permanently capped 100 billion total supply. Approximately 14.38 million XRP has been burned, representing 0.014% of the total supply. US spot XRP ETFs collectively hold $1.4 billion in XRP (1.62% of market cap), with cumulative net inflows of $1.62 billion.
