XRP Ledger Targets 2028 Quantum Readiness Ahead of Ethereum
XRP Ledger developers are racing to achieve quantum readiness by 2028, surpassing their competitor Ethereum's target of 2029. According to Vet, an XRPL Foundation contributor and validator, major progress is expected as early as 2027 with the launch of a hybrid deployment of new security protocols.
The XRP Ledger has three key architectural features that give it a technological advantage in this migration: native key rotation, which allows cryptographic keys to be updated without changing user addresses; 'Quantum-Day' emergency response protocol, which isolates vulnerable accounts and moves them into a secure mode; and active cryptography testing.
Vet also cautioned against overhyping Algorand's launch of quantum-secured accounts, as its architecture is only partially protected. The network still relies on the vulnerable Ed25519 standard for everyday operations.
