XRP Ledger Validators Vote on Proposed Privacy Amendment
XRP Ledger validators will vote on a proposed privacy amendment that targets the $530 million RWA market. The Confidential Transfers proposal aims to encrypt balances and payment amounts attached to Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs), which are designed for assets like tokenized funds, bonds, and other financial instruments. However, accounts involved in a payment and the type of asset being transferred will remain visible.
The RWA market on XRP Ledger has grown significantly, with over $1.38 billion in distributed real-world assets hosted by the network. Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin accounts for approximately $845.7 million of this amount, leaving more than $530 million in other distributed tokenized assets that could potentially use the privacy feature.
Confidential Transfers would initially apply only to direct MPT payments between accounts, with holders needing to opt into the encrypted format before using it. The proposal requires 80% validator support for two consecutive weeks to become active.
