XRP Ledger Validators Weigh Major Upgrade to Lending Infrastructure
The XRP Ledger is considering a major upgrade to its lending infrastructure, but it still needs more support from validators.
Two amendments, XLS-65 and XLS-66, are currently being considered. These proposals would allow for the creation of Single Asset Vaults, which can pool one asset from multiple depositors and issue tokenized shares representing ownership.
The LendingProtocol amendment, XLS-66, builds on top of these vaults by allowing pooled funds to finance fixed-term, uncollateralized loans while recording loan agreements, payments, and defaults directly on XRPL.
Ripple has described lending as a missing layer for tokenized capital markets, arguing that bringing assets on-chain has limited utility if institutions cannot subsequently put those assets to work through credit and liquidity markets.
The proposal arrives as Ripple's wider on-chain financial ecosystem is expanding. Its RLUSD stablecoin has gained significant traction, with RLUSD growth becoming another sign that XRPL and Ripple-linked infrastructure are increasingly being positioned around institutional payments, liquidity, and tokenized finance.
