XRP Rallies on Macro Shock, Technical Setup, and Regulatory Optimism
XRP experienced a sudden surge of 3.12% in just six hours, driven by a combination of macroeconomic factors and technical setups.
The immediate catalyst was a policy move by the US Treasury, which announced it would double long-term government bond buybacks to at least $4 billion per operation. This led to a broad crypto rally, with Bitcoin jumping 5.8% to above $69,500, Ethereum rising 9%, Solana increasing 6.5%, and XRP climbing 6.9%.
However, the 3.12%-point move in XRP was not solely due to this macro shock. The coin's technical setup and positioning also played a significant role. Derivatives open interest on Binance reached a two-month high of $461.3 million, indicating elevated leverage and potential short squeezes.
The presence of institutional demand, particularly through US spot XRP ETFs which saw net inflows of $5.81 million on August 18, further contributed to the rally. Regulatory and policy optics also supported sentiment around $1, with the SEC's proposed 'Regulation Crypto Assets' framework offering a shift from pure enforcement towards rulemaking.
