XRP Surges 15% on Macroeconomic Tailwinds and Executive Support
XRP saw a significant surge of 15% on August 20 as its market capitalization recovered over $9 billion in just 24 hours. The token's price jumped from $0.99 to $1.15, reaching a level not seen since July 21.
The rally was driven by macroeconomic tailwinds, including the U.S. Treasury doubling its long-term bond buybacks, which pushed yields lower and improved the appeal of risk assets. This move triggered a short squeeze, propelling Bitcoin up 11.01% and lifting the total cryptocurrency market capitalization by just under 10 percent.
President Donald Trump's call for Congress to pass the CLARITY Act at a White House event also fueled momentum, signaling continued executive support for the legislation crucial for the industry's regulatory framework. This marked a significant reversal for XRP, which had struggled throughout much of August and dropped 65% from its January 2026 high of $3.40.
Broader crypto strength supported XRP's advance, with spot Bitcoin ETFs recording roughly $517 million in net inflows on August 20. However, technical analysts noted that a decisive close above $1.13 could strengthen the setup and put key Fibonacci extension levels in focus, while a break below $1.08 would suggest momentum was beginning to fade.
