XRP Surges Ahead of Struggling Cardano
XRP and Cardano are two cryptocurrencies that have been struggling in recent months. While both are far below their all-time highs, XRP is showing more promise as it continues to build out its capabilities to capture a share of the market for tokenized real-world assets.
The XRP Ledger has seen significant growth in tradeable tokenized assets, reaching $323 million in value by July 21. This is up from just $130 million a year ago. The chain's ability to settle transactions quickly and efficiently has also made it attractive to financial institutions, with the first cross-border tokenized U.S. Treasury redemption taking place on May 6.
Meanwhile, Cardano is facing significant challenges. Despite recent upgrades to its network, including the Van Rossem upgrade and the upcoming Leios package, the chain's ecosystem is shrinking. The decentralized finance (DeFi) total value locked fell from $693 million in December 2024 to just $69 million by mid-July.
Cardano's founder, Charles Hoskinson, has warned of a 'wave of failures' across the ecosystem and has taken a break, sending the coin's price sharply downward. With no clear strategy to attract new capital or users, Cardano is struggling to compete with other major chains.
