XRPL Audit Sparks Ghost Chain Claims Amid Low-Fee Debate
A recent audit by Bitquery has linked 793 accounts to 93.2% of XRPL's August transaction activity, sparking claims of a 'ghost chain'. In response, Schwartz argued that low fees enable both meaningful use and high volumes of low-value activity.
XRPL charges a base fee of 10 drops, allowing for cheap but high-frequency transactions. The audit covered 5.06 billion transactions since 2013 and found that each of the 793 busiest accounts submitted more than 10,000 transactions in August.
The account classification placed 767 accounts in automated categories, identified 26 exchange hot wallets that produced 1.1% of total activity, and DEX order bots accounted for 48.1% of transactions.
Schwartz questioned whether higher costs and fewer low-value transfers would improve the ledger, addressing cheap activity rather than each category within Bitquery's audit.
