XRPL Node Stability Restored After Spam Attack
Ripple's CTO Emeritus and XRP Ledger chief architect David Schwartz has shared operational metrics for his private hub, a relay server that plays a key role in XRP Ledger communication. The data shows XRPL node stability restored after a July spam attack.
The 'manifest storm' on July 31 overwhelmed the network with fake validator credentials, forcing legitimate nodes to divert resources toward processing spam and putting the ledger's operational stability at risk.
Schwartz's relay hub was among the most affected servers, experiencing numerous connection failures. However, block finalization and consensus mechanisms continued without interruption, and engineers intervened quickly to resolve the issue without taking the network offline.
The xrpld 3.2.1 hotfix was released after the incident, capping manifest size and improving data caching from unknown nodes. This change aimed to prevent the network from wasting computing power on unauthenticated entities.
