XRPL Rolls Out Zero-Knowledge Proofs for Institutional Users
The XRP Ledger has unveiled an upgrade designed to enhance privacy for institutional users. Confidential Transfers, as it's called, uses zero-knowledge proofs and batch processing to encrypt transaction amounts while still allowing network validation.
This shift is significant because XRPL has historically been a fully transparent blockchain. The upgrade addresses a long-standing friction point between regulatory compliance and competitive confidentiality by providing selective disclosure rather than absolute anonymity.
Batch processing capabilities are another key component of the feature, which could streamline high-volume operations such as payroll, settlements, or tokenized asset transfers. Permission controls allow designated parties to view transaction details when required for audits or legal obligations.
The upgrade aligns with growing institutional interest in XRPL and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization on the ledger. Aviva and Ondo Finance have already issued RWA tokens on XRPL, signaling that it's positioning itself as a viable infrastructure for regulated financial applications where privacy features are often a prerequisite.
