XRP's August Blues: Will History Repeat Itself?
Ripple's cross-border token, XRP, has maintained an impressive streak of monthly gains since 2020, but its August performance is a different story. According to data from CryptoRank, XRP closed seven Julys in a row with gains, including a whopping 48% surge in July 2020 and more modest increases in subsequent years. However, the ongoing bear market has taken a toll on the asset, with a mere 3% gain in July 2026 being its lowest increase.
The broader crypto market's mixed performance in July has left some wondering if XRP will continue to defy expectations. History shows that only four out of 13 Augusts have ended higher for the cross-border token, with two notable exceptions: a 52% surge in 2017 and a massive 60% rise in 2021.
The median data suggests a 6.57% decline throughout previous Augusts, which is in stark contrast to the 6.91% gain for July. The past four editions of the eighth month of the year have been in the red for XRP, with losses ranging from 8.15% to 26.6%. Can XRP buck its bearish trend and defy history, or will it succumb to the August blues once again?
Despite the uncertainty surrounding its August performance, XRP has rebounded slightly from the June dump, where it plummeted by over 22%. The cross-border token's relationship with July remains strong, with a consecutive streak of seven green Julys under its belt.
