XRP's Quantum Shield: Key Rotation Feature Leaves Bitcoin Exposed
XRP's key rotation feature may shield it from quantum computing threats more effectively than Bitcoin.
A recent audit of the XRP Ledger by a validator named Vet found that only 0.03% of its circulating supply is vulnerable to such threats, compared to an estimated 35% of Bitcoin's.
The audit discovered that roughly 300,000 XRP accounts holding 2.4 billion tokens have never sent a transaction and are therefore quantum-safe by default.
Only two dormant 'whale' accounts, which hold a combined 21 million XRP, were identified as exposed to the threat.
This exposure could be mitigated by using the ledger's key rotation feature, which allows users to swap their signing keys without moving funds, and its escrow time-lock mechanism, which adds an extra layer of defense.
