XRP's Role in Cross-Border Liquidity Debated as SWIFT Launches New Blockchain System

SWIFT's blockchain settlement system, which uses tokenized bank deposits on Ethereum, has sparked debate about XRP's role in facilitating cross-border transactions. The new system does not incorporate XRP, leading some to question its value as a bridge asset for currency conversions.

Tokenized deposits improve same-currency transfers, but they do not address the need for liquidity in currency conversion, according to experts. XRP could still play a crucial role in facilitating faster and more efficient cross-currency exchanges, addressing the inefficiencies of traditional correspondent banking.

However, it remains uncertain if banks will adopt XRP given SWIFT's preference for controlled, institution-led solutions. Major crypto market makers have locked $1.38 billion in short hedges on BTC, ETH, and XRP as a risk management strategy during the US debt crisis.
