XRP's Year-Long Downtrend May Be Ending as Descending Channel Nears Breakout
XRP has been in a downtrend for over a year, but its weekly chart suggests that the decline has remained under control. This controlled correction has kept traders and weaker holders from panicking and selling off their XRP, which would have led to a sharp collapse.
The price of XRP has been trading within a descending channel since it fell from its $3.6 peak in July 2025. During this time, buyers have repeatedly defended the lower trendline when the price came under pressure, while sellers have capped recoveries near the upper trendline.
This tug-of-war between buyers and sellers has kept XRP on a gradual downward path instead of triggering a steeper decline. The structure of the correction has remained consistent throughout the past year, with lower highs and lower lows forming lower lows.
Historical data suggests that XRP has repeatedly posted major weekly gains 51 to 52 weeks later, mostly occurring in July. One instance came in July 2023, when XRP recorded a 59.54% weekly gain following the SEC vs. Ripple lawsuit ruling. If XRP breaks above $1.21, it could move out of the descending channel and open the door to a broader recovery.
