Yield Guild Games Axes Web3 Game Publishing Arm Amid Market Conditions
Yield Guild Games' (YGG) web3 game publishing arm, YGG Play, has shut down its services as of July 31st. The decision was announced by co-founder Gabby Dizon on X, stating that the unit will 'go offline' and thanking users for their support. This marks a significant change in direction for Yield Guild Games, which had previously operated under the motto of 'farming yield from game assets.'
YGG disclosed a treasury of $20.6 million as of the end of the first quarter, including $6.2 million in stablecoins and large-cap tokens. The company cited market conditions, particularly the October 10, 2025 liquidation cascade and subsequent drought, as the reason for shutting down YGG Play. Dizon emphasized that this decision was 'a market decision, not a product decision,' and attributed it to the broader macroeconomic climate.
The shutdown affects 35 jobs, with departing staff set to receive eight additional weeks of pay. The YGG Play platform, which hosted games like LOL Land and Waifu Sweeper, will no longer be available after July 31st. However, some web3 versions of GIGACHADBAT and Ragnarok Breaker will continue as normal, maintained by Delabs Games and Planetarium Labs respectively.
Yield Guild Games is now shifting its focus to the AI data economy, with a business-to-business pipeline built around gaming datasets. This marks a return to working with its player community, but this time generating behavioral data for AI labs rather than farming yield from game assets.
