Yield Guild Games' web3 game publishing arm, YGG Play, has shut down its services as of August 1. This decision comes after co-founder Gabby Dizon announced on July 6 that the unit would be sunsetting due to unprofitability. The closure affects around 35 jobs and includes the popular games LOL Land and Waifu Sweeper.

The company cited market conditions, specifically the October 10, 2025 liquidation cascade and subsequent drought, as the reason for the shutdown. YGG Play generated $9 million in lifetime revenue by the end of the first quarter of 2026 but was deemed no longer commercially sustainable due to the broader macroeconomic climate.

The closure marks a pivot for Yield Guild Games towards the AI data economy, where it will focus on generating behavioral data for AI labs using gaming datasets. This move leverages the guild's resources and extends its operating runway to four years.
