Zama Hits Confidential Transfer Speed Milestone with FHE
Zama's CEO Rand Hindi claims his company has achieved a significant milestone in fully homomorphic encryption, reaching 1,000 confidential transfers per second on GPUs. This is up from just 0.2 tps when the company first demoed an FHE smart contract at ETHcc in 2022, a 5,000x improvement in four years.
Hindi says that running an FHE node now costs about $0.000004 per ERC7984 transaction, which is 'orders of magnitude cheaper' than zero-knowledge proofs. However, it's worth noting that this cost comparison is the company's own framing and has not been independently verified.
Zama's performance has not yet been activated on mainnet, with plans to do so by the end of the year. The company aims to reach 10,000 tps by 2028 and 100,000 tps by 2030, although these targets remain aspirational and dependent on further advancements in cryptography, engineering, and hardware.
