Zcash and Litecoin Gain Regulatory Approval in Europe Despite Looming Ban
SwissBorg, a crypto platform in Europe, has added Zcash (ZEC) and Litecoin (LTC) to its listings. This move may seem bold given that regulators have been cracking down on privacy coins in the European market. However, SwissBorg claims that the decision was driven by a surge in customer searches for these assets.
The company uses transparent addresses, which allows it to comply with current financial monitoring requirements. This means that Zcash and Litecoin can be listed despite having anonymization features. However, this is only a temporary solution, as from July 10, 2027, Article 79 of the EU's new Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) will take effect.
This regulation effectively prohibits licensed exchanges and custodians from servicing any assets with anonymization features. Zcash holders can still conduct peer-to-peer transactions after this date, but it will be difficult for them to use regulated exchanges. The listing of these assets coincided with a strong resurgence in Zcash's price, which gained 45% in just one week and broke through the psychological $1,000 mark.
