Zcash and Monero Lead Cryptocurrency Market Rotation
The market for cryptocurrencies is experiencing a rotation towards privacy coins, with zcash and monero leading the charge. According to Glassnode's data, the privacy coin sector has gained 213% since Bitcoin reached its record high in October 2025, while most major cryptocurrencies remain below their October levels.
Zcash accounted for about 62% of the privacy sector's value on September 7, with a market capitalization ranking of seventh. The token rose more than 25-fold over the past year, reaching above $1,000 in early September due to leveraged short liquidations and exchange-traded product inflows.
The rotation towards privacy coins is attributed to growing demand for anonymity in cryptocurrency transactions. Zcash's protocol combines transparent transactions with an optional shielded pool that conceals senders, recipients, and amounts through zero-knowledge proofs, while Monero conceals transaction details at the protocol level without offering a transparent transaction option.
