Zcash Breaks Above $1000, But Can It Sustain the Momentum?
Zcash's price has broken above $1000 for the first time since 2016 after a 20% surge in the past 48 hours. The token's intraday high of $1,046 marks a significant milestone, putting Zcash firmly back in the spotlight. Derivatives have played a major role in this breakout, accelerating the price movement. However, data from shielded-pool shows no strong net increase in coins moving into privacy pools, raising concerns about the sustainability of this upswing.
The immediate technical challenge is to hold above $1000 and transform this into a strong base. If buyers can sustain the breakout, the next major upside area on the long-term chart comes near $1,600 to $1,625. A failure could push the price below $1000, exposing it to support between $850 and $900.
The sharp increase in derivatives positioning has been accompanied by a rise in open interest to $1.66 billion. Short liquidations have also contributed to the rally, but this creates an important divergence between organic demand and leveraged-driven momentum. The spot buying has not yet matched the strength seen in the futures market, leaving room for further volatility.
