Zcash Breaks Through $1,000 Barrier, Triggers Record Short Liquidations
Zcash (ZEC) has reached a significant milestone after breaking above $1,000 for the first time since 2018. The cryptocurrency's price surge triggered a sharp wave of leveraged short liquidations, with CoinGlass data showing that positions worth $13.24 million were closed over a 24-hour period.
Short positions accounted for $11.26 million of those liquidations, compared to just $1.98 million in long positions. This imbalance highlights the risks associated with concentrated leverage and how quickly positioning can be disrupted when an asset breaks through a level that traders had been using to anticipate a reversal.
The move above $1,000 has intensified the impact of the rally on traders positioned for a decline. Short liquidations can add buying pressure to a rising market as exchanges must close affected positions, requiring tokens to be purchased to settle the trades.
