Zcash's price has surged 62% in the past week, hitting $880 before retreating to around $830. This is a level not seen since 2018.

The token's value increase coincides with an upcoming governance vote, which could transform how new ZEC coins are released and how fast the network processes transactions.

The voting process requires holders of spendable shielded ZEC in Ironwood to have their funds at a precise block height of 3,459,350. This snapshot is estimated to occur around 19:00 UTC on August 24.

Holders who meet this criteria will be able to participate in the vote, which runs from August 25 to September 14. The voting period includes five questions covering changes to issuance, block speed, and the Sprout pool. A minimum of 1 million ZEC in participation is required for the results to be considered representative.
