The upcoming NU7 upgrade for Zcash (ZEC) will soon be subject to a vote by eligible coin holders. This process, which is scheduled to take place on August 24 at block height 3,459,350, grants voting power based on shielded holdings rather than validator participation or delegated voting.

Holders are not required to maintain their ZEC throughout the voting period, as coins can be transferred once eligibility is determined. Voting will commence on August 25 and conclude on September 14 at block height 3,459,350. Supported wallets include Vizor, Zashi, and Zkool.

The ballot includes several key decisions regarding network changes, including the rate of new ZEC entry into circulation, whether previously removed ZEC should return through future block rewards, and when to disable legacy Sprout transactions. Additionally, voters will weigh in on shortening the block interval and how to handle NU7 features that are not ready by the scheduled time.
