Zcash Holds Ground at $1,100 as Leverage Flush Threatens Pullback
Zcash's price held steady at around $1,100 as it faced pressure from a derivatives market reset following its rapid rally. The token had surged to a multi-year high near $1,290 but failed to extend its advance above this level, leading to increased profit-taking and liquidations.
The leverage flush was triggered by the addition of exposure in the derivatives market during Zcash's price increase, which ultimately led to forced closures and selling pressure. The token's futures open interest dropped by around 20% over a 24-hour period, with approximately $17.2 million in long positions being liquidated.
Broader risk sentiment also added pressure on Zcash, with rising tensions in the Middle East and oil prices approaching $100 per barrel raising inflation concerns. The U.S. consumer price data was hotter than expected, affecting expectations for monetary policy, and prediction markets placed the probability of a 25-basis-point Federal Reserve rate increase at about 86% ahead of its September meeting.
