Zcash Leads Privacy Coin Surge with 2,496% Gain
The crypto market has seen a significant shift in recent months, with privacy coins emerging as the standout trade of 2026. According to Glassnode data on September 7th, this sector has dramatically outperformed Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies.
One of the key drivers behind this rally is Zcash (CRYPTO: ZEC), which has soared an impressive 2,496% over the past year. This surge has catapulted it into the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, representing roughly 62% of the privacy sector's value.
Notably, all eight privacy coins with at least one year of trading history are higher over the past year, compared to only one in eight assets across the top 200. This suggests that investors are increasingly turning to these coins for their anonymity and security features.
Crypto trader Altcoin Sherpa expects Zcash's momentum to continue, predicting a price target of $5,000-$10,000 this cycle if Bitcoin remains strong. He notes that recent pullbacks have been relatively shallow, with buyers stepping in on dips.
