Zcash Miners Crush Bitcoin on Profitability, Grayscale Analysis Reveals
Recent analysis by Grayscale reveals that Zcash miners are experiencing a significant profit boost compared to Bitcoin miners. According to Zach Pandl, Grayscale's head of research, BTC miners pocket around $35 million in crypto daily, while ZCash miners receive approximately $2 million. However, despite the lower overall revenue for ZEC mining, the rewards per mining rig and megawatt-hour are roughly 2x and 4x higher than Bitcoin, respectively.
The experiment was conducted using the latest mining hardware, with results showing that ZEC is currently more profitable to mine after its recent price increase. In fact, Zcash returns were even better than some artificial intelligence and high-performance computing cloud services in certain instances. Pandl notes that 'at current valuations, Zcash mining can be highly profitable'.
This increased profitability has led to a surge in mining activity for the privacy-focused cryptocurrency, supporting its network security. However, it's worth noting that ZEC uses the same Proof of Work (PoW) algorithm as Bitcoin, which is energy-intensive and may face similar criticism if it scales effectively. In contrast, other networks have moved to more energy-efficient Proof of Stake (PoS) mining approaches.
Zcash has seen significant price movements in recent times, with its recent surge past $1,000 sparking renewed interest in the token. However, investors are advised to remain vigilant and consider the bigger picture rather than treating ZEC as a get-rich-quick scheme.
