Zcash Mining Revenue Tops Bitcoin Four-Fold Amid Price Surge
Grayscale Research Director Zach Pandl recently revealed that Zcash mining revenue per megawatt has surpassed Bitcoin's by four times. This is a remarkable achievement, especially considering that Zcash mining activity has increased more than 2.5 times since the start of 2026.
The reason behind this surge in revenue is the significant rise in ZEC prices. In September 2026, ZEC climbed above $1,000 for the first time after gaining 20% in one session, while about $34.5 million in short positions were liquidated over 24 hours.
As a result of this price increase, Zcash miners currently generate approximately four times as much revenue per megawatt-hour as Bitcoin miners. This is an impressive feat, especially considering that ZEC mining revenue per unit of electricity also exceeds the income offered by some artificial intelligence and high-performance computing cloud services.
