Zcash, Monero Prices Soar as Privacy-Coin Markets Boom
The cryptocurrency market saw significant gains in August, particularly among privacy-focused assets. According to Coingecko data, Zcash and Monero led the pack, with ZEC gaining a staggering 82% over the month.
This impressive growth can be attributed in part to institutional exposure, with Grayscale launching a ZEC exchange-traded fund near the end of August. This publicly traded vehicle gives investors spot ZEC exposure without the need for managing wallets and private keys directly.
The launch of the ETF fueled ZEC's surge, lifting its market capitalization from approximately $8 billion at the start of August to over $14 billion. Monero, on the other hand, started the month slowly but gained nearly 20% in the last week of August alone, bringing its total monthly gain to around 40% and pushing its market cap toward $10 billion.
The broader category tailwinds extended to smaller-cap protocols like DASH, RAIL, and ZANO, which saw gains of 38.3%, 37.6%, and 26.7% respectively. However, a handful of privacy coins posted losses in August, including beldex and humanity.
