Zcash Poised to Challenge Bitcoin as Privacy Edge Gains Importance
Grayscale Research believes that Zcash (ZEC) can challenge Bitcoin (BTC) for dominance in the digital currencies category, thanks to its privacy features that will become increasingly valuable as AI systems grow more capable of analyzing financial activity at scale. The report argues that Zcash has 'second mover advantages' over Bitcoin, benefiting from features not technically possible or less relevant when Bitcoin launched.
Pandl identified three specific features that set Zcash apart: financial privacy, which Grayscale believes could become essential as AI systems improve at tracking and analyzing on-chain financial behavior; active development aimed at heading off cybersecurity risks, including the long-term threat quantum computing poses to classical cryptography; and cross-chain connectivity through 'intents' technology built into modern blockchain wallets.
Zcash has climbed roughly 19-fold over the past year, yet the token remains valued at less than 1% of Bitcoin's market cap as of Aug. 24. Grayscale sees that gap as evidence that the currencies sector is ripe for competition and that Zcash's current valuation does not reflect the potential value of its features.
