Zcash Price Surge Triggers Massive Liquidation Imbalance
Zcash's price surge has left traders who bet against it reeling. The token's sudden jump to over $1,000 on September 4, 2026, caught many off guard, leading to a massive liquidation imbalance.
A total of $13.24 million in leveraged positions were closed out over the past 24 hours, with $11.26 million of that coming from short sellers and $1.98 million from long holders. This imbalance amounts to a staggering 562%.
Zcash's price increase has been building momentum since October 2025, when it broke free from a prolonged range that had lasted since June 2022. In April 2025, the token traded as low as $7.7 before rebounding in October of the same year.
The ZEC rally gained significant steam in August 2026, with prices rising by 105% over the last 30 days and a whopping 2,395% over the past year. Grayscale's spot Zcash ETF, which began trading on NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH in late August, is likely contributing to this growth.
