Zcash Private Transactions Get Major Speed Boost
Zcash has undergone a significant upgrade to its private transaction proof generation, resulting in a substantial speed boost. According to the Zakura Common team, proof generation is now over 14 times faster on mobile devices and 5 times faster on desktop. This improvement also brings hashing speeds up by 21 times, verification 4-8 times faster, and trial decryption 1.5 times faster.
The upgrade has reduced some private transaction times from over 3 seconds to under 200 milliseconds. While this may not seem like a massive difference in absolute terms, it can make a significant impact on the user experience, especially for those using mobile devices. The improved performance is expected to enhance wallet UX and privacy/security performance, potentially boosting crypto adoption and on-ramp use via exchanges and CEX/DEX flows.
However, it's essential to note that broader everyday adoption still depends on merchant acceptance and easy exchange transfers. Despite the speed upgrade, Zcash transactions are not suddenly 14 times quicker; rather, parts of the wallet experience will feel faster due to improved proof generation.
