Zcash Rockets Past $1,000 as Short Sellers Reap Big Losses
Zcash has reached a milestone of $1,000 per token after a 20% surge in the past 24 hours. The price increase brings its total market value to around $17 billion and highlights the growing interest in privacy-focused cryptocurrencies.
The rapid ascent of Zcash caught short sellers off guard, with an estimated $34.5 million in losses from liquidated positions over the past day. This has added fuel to the rising market, as closing a short requires buying back into the token, contributing to its price growth.
Over the past 30 days, Zcash has gained around 94%, and more than 2,300% over the past year, making it one of the strongest-performing large crypto assets. The recent rally is attributed to both technical and institutional developments in recent weeks, including the launch of Grayscale's spot Zcash ETF on NYSE Arca and advancements in network speed.
Developers behind Zakura, a Zcash node launched in July, have released cryptography tools that significantly reduce transaction times. This improvement aims to make the chain fast enough for everyday payments, potentially attracting more users and investors.
