Zcash Soars on Grayscale Filing and Growing Interest in Privacy Features
Zcash has reclaimed the $800 level, up over 20% in just one day, and extending its rally by nearly 5,000% from its July 2024 low of $15.97, according to CoinMarketCap.
The token's price surge is being driven by two main factors: a growing narrative around Zcash's privacy features, which have been gaining traction since last year; and Grayscale's filing process to convert its Zcash Trust into an ETF, set to list on NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH on or around August 25.
Last October, investor Naval Ravikant argued that 'Bitcoin is insurance against fiat. ZCash is insurance against Bitcoin', a statement that helped revive interest in ZEC. More recently, Grayscale disclosed it's in non-binding talks with DCG International Investments to contribute approximately 200,000 ZEC to the trust in exchange for shares.
The proposed contribution from DCG would be worth around $155 million to $160 million at current prices. However, it's essential to note that this arrangement is not binding and could still fall through entirely. The listing date of August 25 is Grayscale's anticipated timeline, but no assurance can be given that the shares will list and trade on that schedule or at all.
The SEC's registration statement must become effective before both the listing and contribution can proceed. Grayscale has run this trust-to-ETF conversion process before with its Dogecoin and XRP trusts, which have already converted and now trade as NYSE-listed ETFs.
