Zcash Surges 5.02% on Short Squeeze, ETF Interest
Zcash (ZEC) surged 5.02% in just four hours due to a short squeeze triggered by breaking above the $1,000 level. This move was amplified by ETF-driven institutional interest and an AI-privacy narrative that has refocused attention on ZEC.
The break above $1,000 led to liquidations of about $34.5 million in short positions, with total ZEC liquidations around $36-36.6 million, according to CoinGlass data. One trader lost over $18.5 million on a 32,760 ZEC short as the price exploded past $1,000.
The short squeeze was not isolated and was part of a larger cycle driven by ETF fueled inflows and derivative longs and shorts that pushed ZEC into a regime where breakouts tend to overshoot. The AI-privacy narrative has also contributed to ZEC's recent acceleration, with some analysts linking it to OpenAI's launch of the GPT 6 Astra model and a scandal involving unauthorized edits to Germany’s “DseWiki”.
