Zcash Surges Past $1 Billion Market Cap Amid Regulatory Clarity
The cryptocurrency Zcash (CRYPTO:ZEC) has experienced significant growth over the past year, reaching a price of $1,024 on September 4 and surpassing $1 billion in market capitalization. This is in stark contrast to other major cryptocurrencies such as XRP (CRYPTO:XRP), which is down 50% over the same period, and Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC), which has fallen by 28%. Zcash's price increase can be attributed to its unique feature of hiding transaction information, setting it apart from other blockchains.
The SEC's decision to close a two-year investigation into the Zcash Foundation without taking any action in January 2026 may have also contributed to the coin's surge. Additionally, Grayscale's spot Zcash ETF began trading on NYSE Arca on August 25, which allowed pensions, advisors, and family offices to invest in the coin through an exchange-traded fund.
The price of Zcash has been steadily increasing since August 20, with a gain of 80% over just two weeks. However, most of its growth occurred between October and November 2025, when it surged from $41 to $540. The current momentum may be sustained if investors continue to buy the Grayscale fund.
On the other hand, XRP's price decline can be attributed to a combination of factors, including a falling market and a lack of regulatory clarity. The coin's commodity status was jointly classified by the SEC and CFTC in March 2026, but this did not prevent its price from dropping.
