Zcash Surges Past $1,000 as Grayscale's Hard Money Thesis Takes Hold
Zcash (ZEC) has reached a new milestone, trading at $1,001 on September 4, up by 20% in a single day. This price surge comes just two weeks after Grayscale launched its ZEC ETF, which has already amassed over $400 million in net assets.
Grayscale attributes the recent gains to the growing popularity of digital privacy coins and the fact that Zcash is increasingly viewed as 'hard money' due to its capped supply of 21 million coins. This thesis suggests that investors are beginning to see ZEC as a store of value, much like traditional currencies.
The data also shows that Zcash's open interest has reached a record high of $2.33 billion, with over $34 million worth of short positions being wiped out between September 3 and September 4. Despite this, the market remains bearish, with more short sellers opening new positions than long accounts.
Analysts are predicting further gains for ZEC, with some targeting a price of $8,100 if it were to take only 10% of Bitcoin's market share. However, the RSI reading is close to reaching an overbought zone, which could cause the rally to stall before another phase of buying commences.
